Chuck

Chuck the M2 arrived here in January of this year. He arrived in his cage, which was meant for a cockateil, and not a cockatoo. He couldn't ever turn around in it. Chuck is about 9 years old, the only history I got was that he was abused, by getting kicked, hit with fly swaters, and chased with dusters. His feathers were oily, and a dingy yellow-brown color, which I beleive came from people smoking heavily around him. Several showers have cleaned his feathers back to normal color. He is plucked, this is a behavorial problem. I have him on a better diet, and the feathers on his back are growing in. He clearly does not like men, and gets upset if I don't have my glasses on. I can pet him, but only when I wear my glasses. He LOVES to CHEW! He is the most happy when he can chew on wood, and loves to arrange the wood slivers in his water bowl, and food bowl. Chuck is very vocal, nothing gets by him without him sounding the alarm! I beleive this vocalazation has lead to the abuse of Chuck, and the many homes he has had. I was told he was in three different homes before coming here.

Mango

Mango, the little Senegal Parrot that loves you.....was given up by her previous owner when a new boyfriend moved in, and became jealous. Personally, I would have ditched the boyfriend.

Sam

Sam our 15 year old U2, was in at least 5 homes before finding us. In one home he was kept in a rabbit hutch, in another home he was put on antidepressants, because he screamed all of the time, and was considered "neurotic". In his home before us, he had attacked the owner, and sent her to the emergency room for stitches on her hands. He has been with us for 14 months, and has quit pulling his feathers, and some have grown back in, while in other places he will never regrow feathers due to excessive feather plucking for many years. We were told he hated men, but he has bonded with Paul as soon as he arrived, and gets plenty of love and attention now. He loves to chew, and enjoys time out of his cage, he hates baths, and showers, but will put up with it anyway! He loves to show off in front of children!

Sisco

Sisco, the green-wing Macaw, was kept out in a shed, in a small cage. He is estimated to be about 7 years old. When he arrived here early this year, his wing and tail feathers were worn off by the small cage bars. We put him in a large Macaw cage, and the feathers regrew and he is now a very handsome fellow! He is not tame, and loves to "bluff" he spends alot of time out of his cage, and is very independent. He enjoys playing with his toys, especially bells.

Topaz

Topaz, is a female blue and gold Macaw, that arrived here in December 2006. She had accidentally flown into a ceiling fan. The person who delivered her, tried to doctor the wound themselves, and as a result, a very nasty infection set in. This person felt they couldn't afford a large Vet bill, so Topaz was brought here. I couldn't really afford it myself, but I have an excellent Avian Vet, that does do payments. The infection was pretty severe, and amputation of the wing was considered. Our Vet decided if he could save the wing first, then he would rather do that. He was able to save the wing, but she is permanently crippled. I have been working with her, and she is able to lift the wing away from her body, somethig the vet thought she would never do! But she cannot extend the wing. She is quite active, and loves to go outside.

Sapphire

Sapphire, is a female blue Quaker parrot. Not all parrots who come here have suffered abuse. This little bird is very much loved. The previous owner had to care for an ailing parent, and could not spend the extra time with Sapphire that she wanted to. So she placed Sapphire with us. She still visits with Sapphire, and knows the little bird is in good hands, and in turn, she has become good friends with us! Sapphire's favorite words are, "Thank You!"

Daisy

Daisy, is a female Double-Yellow-Headed Amazon. She joined our flock at the beginning, about 6 years ago. She was originally bought at a pet store by the previous owner. She only liked the man of the house, and would chase the wife around the house every chance she got! Daisy, hated women! She didn't like the young children in the home either! And would take great delight in biting them when they poked their fingers between the bars of her cage. When I went to pick up Daisy, I noticed that she had chewed her flight feather off, probably from stress. She also growled at me from inside her carrier all the way home! With a lot of love, and time, Daisy now loves women as well as men. Besides eating, she loves to show off by yelling like Tarzan, and singing. She still considers children "biting material"

Alex

Alex, is a male Blue-Front Amazon. He loves to play with toys, and like all Amazons, he loves to eat! Alex can be quite "nippy" at times, and biting is what cost him his original home. He can be a real lover-boy when he wants to be, other times he just likes to do his own thing. And that is fine, no parrot is pressured to be anything it doesn't want to be. Each parrot is unique, and has its own personality, and we respect that. He is a real handsome fellow!

Houdini

Houdini, is a male Lutino Indian Ringneck. He and his brother, Spooky, arrived here a couple of years ago. Both were said to be 10 months old at the time, and had not developed the beautiful reddish-pink ring around their necks. Matter-of-fact, both had been DNA'ed by the previous owner and was labeled females! Both birds were so frightened, that they would thrash about in their cages. Resulting in broken wing, and tail feathers. Both birds were a mess, with dried blood all over them, and just a stub of a tail, and the flight feathers beaten off by throwing themselves against the cage bars. They were placed in a quiet area, and covers were placed around their cages, with just the front open. This gave them the security they needed to calm down. After a few months of this, we were able to remove the covers completely. Houdini, is a fantastic escape artist, second to none! He enjoys peanuts, cooked beans, and lots of time out of his cage.

Jasper

Jasper- This is "mom's boy"! I bought Jasper as a personal pet, when he was 3 months old. He will be 7 years old next year. He loves being out with the rest of the birds instead of the house. He is very bossy, and loves to tell the rest of the birds to "Shut-up!" or "Be quiet!" He loves to sing "Jingle Bells" even in the summer! He loves to greet me every morning with "Hey good lookin' what ya' got cookin'! " Such a good boy!

Gizmo

Gizmo- citron crested cockatoo, was a runt of the hatchlings, and was on his way to a bird auction, I bought him before he got there. This bird is a real clown! He is always up to something! He is only about 3 years old. "Trouble" is his middle name! Like most youngsters, he likes to get into everything! So he must be watched closely when he is out of the cage. After he gets into trouble, he likes to snuggle in your arms and say, "Hi baby" who can be mad at that????

Mikey

Mikey- is a black headed Caique who loves to play! Perferably on his favorite human!! This guy has personality plus! He arrived here about 4 years ago, a bloody mess. He had gotten wrapped up in a sticky fly ribbon, and his previous owner cut the ribbon off of him. Cutting feathers and all. Alot of the feathers were cut to short, and therefore, he bled. It took months for him to learn to trust humans again.

Ranger

Ranger- Is a blue split to grey Indian Ringneck parakeet. He arrived here 3 years ago. He was owned by a retired military man. He was not abused in anyway, he is a wonderful bird! The gentleman and his wife decided they wanted to travel, and would not have the time to spend with Ranger. So he was placed with us. Ranger steps up, loves to be out of his cage, and gives birdie kisses!
